DMC 1_Cardboard Demo (1)

Now we will make a cardboard demo app.

Make a new project. Go to buildsetting and swithch platform from PC to iOS.

And in the assets, click import import cardboard sdk and demo package file.

Next, delete main camera.

And we will make a plane. Go to GameObject > 3D Object > Plane.

And I made its scale 4/1/4.

And in the ‘mesh renderer’, you can change plane’s skin.

Click the circle beside Element 0.

I selected GroundPlane. You can download other free ground plane in asset store.

Next, go to the assets > prefabs, select ‘cardboardMain’.

Drag it to the center.

And the position is 1/1/1.

And we will add a sphere.

The sphere’s position is 1/1/5.

And add a cube. (Position : 1/1/-5)

CardboardMain is parents. There’s two little different camera. It allows to look around properly.

Now let’s create ‘dots’.

In the assets, UI > prefabs > cardboardReticle.

Do not drag into the scene. Just drag it to the hierarchy inside Main Camera.

Our dots!! Nice.

We can also change the color of dots.

Next, we will add an Event System.

Add a component ‘GazeInputModule’.

And in the Main Camera, we will add a component ‘Physics 2D Raycaster’.

And inside the cube, we will add component ‘Event Trigger’.

I did it same to the sphere.

Inside the ‘Event Trigger’, click Add New Event Type. And there’s various option we can choose. We selected ‘PointerEnter’.

Next, choose function. BoxCollider > bool isTrigger.

And choose cube by clicking little circle. (Do it same with sphere.)

Now if we gaze the cube or sphere, the dot will get bigger.

And we will going to walk around to the plane.

To walk around, we have to add some code.

I downloaded from our DMC1 blog.

Inside the assets, make a new folder named ‘Scripts’.

And drag the code inside to the folder.

You can find it in the filter, or asset folder.

Set a speed, and check the box ‘Walk When Look Down’.

Now we can walk around our plane when we look down!

And when we look at our cube or sphere, the dot gets bigger.

Now we will make a moving cube.

Create a new scene. And don’t delete Main Camera.

Make a plane, and add a cube on it.

And drag ‘accelerometer’ script to the cube inspector.

We have to choose itemViewController.

Than we will add a ‘Navigation Item’ to our viewer. Drag it to top of your viewer.

We will connect a line Title to navigation item. Click show.

And change the title of navigation item. (Detail View)

Second, we will add two ‘Bar Button Item’. For cancel and save button.

Change its name ‘cancel’ and ‘save’.

And open the coding screen. Add a code of these button.

DMC 1_Virtual Reality with Google Cardboard

Now we will going to learn about virtual reality. Virtual reality or virtual realities (VR), also known as immersive multimedia or computer-simulated reality, is a computer technology that replicates an environment, real or imagined, and simulates a user’s physical presence and environment in a way that allows the user to interact with it. Virtual realities artificially create sensory experience, which can include sight, touch, hearing, and smell.

We can experience virtual reality with google VR cardboard. We can get this easily by the website.

My smartphone size is iphone6, so I got small one. If you use iphone6+ or Android phone that is bigger, than you should choose big one.

You can assemble this cardboard yourself like this.

And download ‘Cardboard’, ‘NYT VR’ application. These two apps are really good to experience ‘VR’.

You can just open your app and  put your smartphone inside the google cardboard.

It was really amazing. You can look around 360-degree. You can fly, you can do fishing, you can put some plants in the ground. When you play with this cardboard, you can experience time warp also. It was really amazing.

Now go back to our real world, let’s make our own VR world with unity, and bring it to our cardboard.

First, you should download cardboard sdk / demo file. Import package to your unity.

And go to the build setting. Change its platform to iOS.

And click Player Settings.

You should uncheck Portrait, Portrait Upside Down, Landscape Right.

And go to Other Settings.

You have to choose target device iPhone Only.

Than you can click build and save it.

You’ll see this screen after it saved. Just double click Xcode file.

Make sure you have most recent version of Xcode and iOS. If not, you’ll have an error.

If you got this error box, you should update your Xcode.

I have lots of error, but it’s okay. Connect with your smartphone, than you’ll have your own VR app to your phone!

DMC 1_Making Water

This time, we learned how to import an 3D objects.

3dwarehouse.sketchup.com

These are the website where we can download 3D objects.

You should install ‘Blender’ program to use blendswap’s objects.

You can find some free objects in there, but free is not always perfect.

After downloading your objects, you can just drag and drop into your assets.

If you want to make a collider, and walk inside in your house.

You can just create 3d cube, and add a component.

Next, we will going to make a water.

Import Environment Package here.

And make your terrain to fill water. Choose your sky for the reflection.

Inside the Standard Assets > Environment > Water > Prefabs

There’s daytime, night time water. For more upgraded water, you can go to ‘water 4’ folder and choose advanced water. That’s more realistic version. (But it will make your file heavy)

First one is basic daytime water, and second is advanced water.

There’s more wave in advanced water.

When your project is finished, you can export to real application.

You can choose resolution and quality of your app. Also possible to add an icon!
